A vintage coal scuttle with Wren and Hollyhock Design, size approximately 11" from base to spout. Each scuttle is individually sourced and the artwork is hand painted, with wrap round design. Ideal for flower displays or simply to be enjoyed as an unusual work of art in its own right.
Coal scuttles are usually made of brass or copper, treated for any rust before covering with two coats of base primer as recommended by paint manufacturers. The background colour is carefully chosen to suit the particular design. The birds are subsequently painted in acrylic to the level of detail I apply to my traditional paintings. After drying, the finishing and protection will be achieved by two coats of varnish, which brings out the colours even more.
