Leon and Jenny Pettersson - Ceramic Crafts - Pottery
Leon and Jenny Pettersson have been potters for nearly forty years. They met at 6th form, studied art foundation at Ipswich Art School and finally completed degrees, Leon in Fine Art Painting at Canterbury College of Art with Jenny graduating in Ceramics & Glass at Leicester Polytechnic.
They make functional and decorative high fired earthenware by slip casting and wheel throwing. The designs are original and the shapes inspired by nature and the English Countryside. Their pottery has evolved over many years designing and making their own shapes, models and plaster moulds. In working together Jenny may throw a bowl on the potter’s wheel and after it has been biscuit fired Leon will hand-decorate each piece of pottery individually. The thrown pottery is turned by Jenny with Leon doing the slip-casting, a process they use to make some of their clay shapes.
Working from home they enjoy gardening and growing their own vegetables. Their garden and surrounding countryside has been the source of inspiration for many of their designs. Leon is interested in hares, wild birds and is particularly fond of the bearded tits at Walberswick marshes.
There are several examples of Leon and Jenny's work shown below, with those that are currently in stock being available from the website shop. There is more in the Gallery itself.
