Robert Riches - Woodturner
Robert has been woodturning as a hobby for eighteen years. He enjoyed woodwork at school, which included woodturning. Following retirement, he decided he would be able to usefully fill some of his spare time creating a range of items from wood, a medium Robert has always appreciated.
His early skills were somewhat limited but through joining a local woodturning club and reading various publications, his abilities progressively improved. However he is still learning through the challenges that some work requires.
Robert's work has been displayed at local Art and Craft Exhibitions and he undertakes commissions. The majority of his turning is using English grown woods, in particular Laburnum and Yew. One of the pleasing experiences is when the turning reveals the beauty of the grain and colour of the wood. He endeavours to produce work which is pleasing to the eye and with the design having good form and proportion, whether the piece is purely functional or of a decorative nature.
In this general catalogue we publish just a few examples of Robert's work, with most of the exhibits currently available being shown in our website shop.
