Wendy Theobald - Wildlife Artist and Illustrator

From an early age Wendy loved drawing and growing up on a farm provided her with lots of inspiration, from nature and the farming landscape.  This led her to study art and design at Bradford College in West Yorkshire, where she achieved her degree with honours in 1993.  Since then she has been based in Suffolk, working as an artist and illustrator.  Wendy takes her inspiration from wildlife, with her art depicting the colours, patterns and movement which occur in the different seasons and habitats of the countryside.  She often focusses on details such as the structure of plants, the shapes and feathers that make up a bird or capturing the movement and character of brown hares.  Working mainly from watercolours and watercolour pencils allows her to experiment and build colours up gradually.

Along with her paintings, Wendy produces illustrations that are used for interpretation boards, booklets and magazines, which are often used to promote wildlife.  These provide information to the public about an area where the history and wildlife are not always obvious, and encourages these areas to be explored and enjoyed.

In this general catalogue we publish just a few examples of Wendy's work, with most of the exhibits currently available being shown in our website shop.  If you live close by, or are on holiday in the area, do visit the Gallery itself where you should enjoy a relaxed browse through our East Anglian Artists' creations
