Acorn Fused Glass
After working together for many years in a design studio environment, a shared love of arts and crafts has always been part of both of our lives. Following a fused glass class, we both fell in love with this process of creativity.
Jon with more of a drawing/painting background and Tracey having collage and papercraft experience, we took the plunge and invested in a kiln, diving headlong into creating. Our home studio sprung into life with the abundance and vibrancy of the colours and varieties of glass available.
We draw our inspiration from all around, creating one off pieces using various techniques and forms of the glass to achieve our vision. Most of our exhibits draw from the landscape and natural world, the glass naturally highlighting the changing light, affecting how a piece is viewed, This can sometimes be vivid, sometimes subdued in duller conditions. Occasionally the vision requires several firings of about 17-24 hours to create the artwork adding different elements each time.
With some firings the results are expected, with others they are not what we envisaged. This can lead to happy accidents or the expected results are far from what we anticipated, but there is always that excitement/trepidation moment when opening the kiln to see what has occurred. The not knowing is part of the process that can be exhilarating or disappointing, but it is something that we as fused glass artists embrace and love.
