Glynis Hughes - Prints and Card
Glynis Hughes lives in Wickham St Paul’s near Sudbury, Suffolk. She completed her Art Foundation at Braintree College art and studied textile print and design at Bristol Polytechnic and Somerset College of Art, qualifying as a textile designer in 1975.
She worked as a freelance designer and artist, subsidised by a variety of jobs including a dairy farm worker, painter and decorator and practice manager in a GP surgery. During this time she always managed to continue to paint, exhibiting in local exhibitions. She is a member of the Clare Art Club and the Suffolk Art Society.
A lecturer in Art & Design at Braintree College between 1999 and 2005, Glynis taught drawing, painting, printing textiles and ceramics. She also worked for North Essex Community College teaching creative crafts to students with learning disabilities.
Glynis’s own work covers a wide spectrum, including painting, design, murals, portraiture, jewellery, cards and textiles. Says Glynis:
“I like experimenting with texture and colour, and changing and developing my ways of working. I love animals, especially hares and enjoy painting things that make people smile”.
Now a freelance artist, Glynis jointly runs a lifedrawing class and has been involved in community art projects, The Big Draw and creative workshops. She runs projects at local art groups.
Glynis takes commissions for portraits, pets and quirky paintings and cards.
She mainly works from her studio at her home and welcomes visitors by appointment.
