Once thoroughly cleaned, two coats of appropriate primer are applied leaving a fresh and charmingly well-lived surface ready for painting my birds in acrylic. The same level of detail goes into each painting as if on canvas and the size of the churn allows much scope to expand the design. A coat of yacht varnish forms the protective layer and really brings out the colours.
