Clare Sheridan-Wallis - Guest Jeweller
Inspiration
I design and handcraft each piece of jewellery from my home studio in the New Forest. I work with silver and gold vermeil, using different techniques and processes, such as acid etching, casting and saw-piercing, to apply textures, patterns and symbols of the forest into the surface of the metal. I use fire and flame, tools, and techniques to manipulate the metal, creating beautiful collections inspired by the natural surroundings of the forest. I cast acorns, seeds and other specimens foraged from the forest floor, using photography and sketches to study and recreate plant life, such as leaves, flowers and fungi. Incorporating forest wildlife into my collections, like birds, butterflies, pigs, and stags is a regular theme.
Each piece of jewellery is unique. I am in my element wandering in the forest with my young family, finding inspiration to include in my creations. Bespoke orders welcome.
Background
I graduated from Hereford College of Arts (University of Wales) with a BA Honours Degree in Contemporary Applied Arts in 2008. I had started working in small metals in the second year of my degree and found my passion to make jewellery.
