Nuala Garnsey - Pottery

I started working with clay about thirty years ago when I found myself living near John and Margaret West's Pottery in Catle Hedingham.  I guesss it was always going to happen and right then I had the time and I was in the right place. I could not resist the chance to have a go.

I went to evening classes and was hooked.  I then took up day classes at the Wilson Marriage Centre in Colchester and decided to invest in my own wheel and kiln.  I love working with clay and spent more and more time experimenting with glazes and learning lots of different techniques.  I currently have an electric and Raku kiln and work with stoneware and porcelain clays.  I still love to experiment and play around with different styles and colours.

I am a keen gardener and love the outdoors and somehow this comes through to my work.  I find working with clay very therapeutic.  There is nothing better than a good day's throwing to take your troubles away.  It is full of surprises and there is always much to learn.  I just want to continue to progress without restrictions and enjoy making lovely pots.
