I started working with clay about thirty years ago when I found myself living near John and Margaret West's Pottery in Castle Hedingham. I guess it was always going to happen and right then I had the time and I was in the right place. I could not resist the chance to have a go.
I went to evening classes and was hooked. I then took up day classes at the Wilson Marriage Centre in Colchester and decided to invest in my own wheel and kiln. I love working with clay and spent more and more time experimenting with glazes and learning lots of different techniques. I currently have an electric and Raku kiln and work with stoneware and porcelain clays. I still love to experiment and play around with different styles and colours.
I am a keen gardener and love the outdoors and somehow this comes through to my work. I find working with clay very therapeutic. There is nothing better than a good day's throwing to take your troubles away. It is full of surprises and there is always much to learn. I just want to continue to progress without restrictions and enjoy making lovely pots.
Some of Nuala's work is shown below and those that are currently available can be found in the Shop.
